Memorial DayMemorial Day is coming up soon and this year the news is a little better than has been, with the troop withdrawal from Iraq as a good sign. I pray the men and women who gave their lives, either in death or injury, made a positive difference in the out come of this war. The Bible says there will always be wars and rumors of wars. Pray for the world, pray for all people, pray for our service men and women, and pray for the families whose loved ones won't be coming home alive, pray for the injured that have put themselves in harm's way and face a life changing ordeal for themselves and their families. When we visit the cemeteries this Memorial Day and see all the American Flags that decorate the graves of our veterans say a special prayer of thanks. In loving memory, a tribute to my dad, a World War II veteran, in honor of Rolly Morrison, brother-in-law, veteran of Viet Nam (father of Ryan) and in honor of my nephew, Captain Ryan Morrison who serves in the US Army, having served three tours of duty in Iraq and is now home in the USA. We thank God for your safe return. Thank you, VETERANS, for all you have done so that we may live "one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all". On this Memorial Day WE THANK YOU and HONOR you. Ann HaxbyEditor Garage SaleYou can start bringing your Garage Sale items to the church anytime now. Cari Garrett-785-1735 STEWARDSHIP & FINANCEIt is critical during these challenging times for the church to be the church, and not to succumb to fear. It would be easier, and some would suggest more prudent, to move into survival mode. Jesus, however, has always encouraged us to be willing to take risks and be the church, even when the task seems daunting. Thank you for all the ways that you are serving in the name of Jesus Christ through your local congregation, and through your connectional system. We are committed to shared mission of boldly making disciples of Jesus Christ, vitalizing the church and transforming the world. I'm reading a new book by Adam Hamilton entitled Enough: Discovering Joy through Simplicity and Generosity. In it Hamilton addresses the current economic situation and the way our faith intersects with life. In dealing with the current times he suggests six principles: 1.Pay your tithe and offerings first. 2.Create a budget and track your expenses. 3.Simplify your life style. 4.Establish an emergency fund. 5.Pay off your credit cards, use cash and debit cards for purchases, and use credit wisely. 6.Practice long-term savings and investment habits. Grace and Peace, Bill Mullette-Bauer, Director of Stewardship and Finance Oregon-Idaho Conference DESIGNATED FUNDSDid you know there are a number of designated funds that you can contribute to.
